“Myriam, I want to show you something,” said Kitty. “My friend from Turkey has returned today and he was so kind to bring me a small present. He said to me it is an Islamic amulet and it would protect me from envy look. Kitty had a huge amulet in her hands. It was a round thing about ten centimeters in diameter reminding a huge blue eye. Myriam showed no emotions about Kitties present, she was a bit confused. She was sitting looking at Kitty silently.

“Are you mad? Do you want to be a slave?” – said to me my friend when I told her about my desire to wear a head scarf. “It is ugly, you are making a nun of yourself,” told my sister with an air of reproach when I came to her in hijab. “There are so many Muslims but they wear normal clothes,” told my mother, “I insist that you should not wear things like this. What will people say?”

It was a rainy August day in the state of Florida in the United States, having woken up late for an important appointment I called the cab company before jumping in the shower so as to make up for the time lost. I rushed to get ready and not before long I heard the anxiously awaited honk through my bedroom window. I then skipped steps down the stairs and slid carefully into the cab while giving out a sigh of relief for still being able to make the appointment on time.

Muslims in non-muslim countries often face situations when they are mistreated or misunderstood. It is a well known fact that Muslims with hijab or beard are labeled terrorists. It is not surprising for me to be stopped by a policeman and asked for documents, or to be followed everywhere by a watchman in a mall. Such situations were quite upsetting for me before, especially when I have just started wearing hijab. But now my attitude has changed and I treat such cases with humor. I know it is all about knowledge and the level of ignorance of people.

The Man They Could Not Draft The old sailor removed the pipe from his mouth and expectorated contemptuously. “War,” he said. “is neither complicated nor difficult to understand. You just take a gun and kill people. But my grandfather was too smart for them. He had a most methodical mind, he did.”

An old Cherokee chief was teaching his grandson about life... "A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy. "It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. "One is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, self-doubt, and ego.

As far as I am a Muslim now people often ask me about the reason of my conversion. It is a very simple logical question because for a non-muslim it is difficult to understand why a person chooses islam which restricts its followers to enjoy the values of equality and freedom the secular lifestyle suggests. Somehow this question is not so easy to answer. One must penetrate deep his soul, to dig deep himself to understand the main reasons which pushed him to such step.

Holy War on Islam

In the West Islam is considered to be Religion of Sword, which calls the believers to spread their faith by war (jihad). Islamic laws seem as a complete antithesis to the modern Western values. These laws and especially the eagerness with which Muslims follow them seem to be a real threat to destroy existing lifestyle.
